Diagnosis. Eyes absent. Antenna 2 exopod absent. Maxilliped with 7 articles. Pleopods 3-5 absent. Uropod non-segmented; with robust setae. Telson distally truncated; with clumps of robust setae; not forming caudal fan with uropods.

Genera/species composition. Oncostygocaris Schminke, 1980 contains one species: O. patagonica (Noodt, 1963).

Parastygocaris Noodt, 1963 contains two species: P. andina Noodt, 1963; P. goerssi Noodt, 1963.

Stygocarella Schminke, 1980 contains one species: S. pleotelson Schminke, 1980.

Stygocaris Noodt, 1963 contains three species: S. giselae Schminke, 1980; S. townsendi Morimoto, 1977; S. gomezmillasi Noodt, 1963.

Habitat. Freshwater, or stygobiontic, or phreatic.

Distribution. Australia: Victoria. New Zealand: South Island. South America: middle to southern Argentina; southern Chile.
